My Marshallese band "Shermie & Friends" were invited play Saturday nights to perform
before the 7 p.m. movie by the Joba Kabua at his movie place. This was the place to be on Saturday evening and all the
Marshallese people would pack the place to see the movie. Before the show the band was the extra treat as part of the
evening and it was a lot of fun to perform for the local people playing their music and some of my songs. The interest of
the Kabua family youth grew and before we knew it we took one take an recorded in the theater on one Saturday afternoon.
I took my recorder over and set it up in the theater and to know during the day is was very hot. We manage to crank out
some tunes and the heat didn't see to bother any of us. The Kabua family, Bobo, Miriem, and more of the family came to
sing with the band, some of their popular songs new and old. The following 18 songs can be played by clicking on the number -
mp3 files. Enjoy, the acoustics were not bad for such a big building, but the songs were enjoyed by many over the years
- for those that remember the mid-70s - enjoy! In memory of Joba Kubua, a very honorable person and my friend. I have much
respect for the Marshallese people and my band members were like brothers to me. Click on the following to listen to each of the
19 songs recorded.
