An evening with Vince Gill

Nov 21, 2006 - Vince Gill Concert - Denver, Colorado - A great night to remember!

I departed from Colorado Springs to Denver about 4:00 p.m.   Traffic was pretty bad on our arrival to Denver but we managed to arrive at our parking area about 6:30 p.m.  We were very excited to see Vince Gill's show at the Paramont Theatre, front row seats, center stage, row C, seats 9 and 10.  This was my third Vince Gill show, two in Boston, 1998 and second in 2003, both sold out concerts.  I was able to visit with Vince Gill and Amy Grant backstage at their Christmas Concert in Boston in Dec 2003.  In Dec 2003, Vince and Amy were on Larry King Live along with Vince singing with the Boston Pops, a great season to remember.   Shermie enjoyed his backstage visit after the show with Vince and Amy.

I applied in getting backstage passed the Vince Gill fan club I'm a member of but there was a limit to 10 people and I was not selected.  I seat 3 runs from the front just slighted to the left of Vince's sitting behind the man that Vince gave his guitar picks too.  I sit next to an 80 year old lady that was selected to visit Vince before the show.   She noted to us after visiting Vince saying, "I liked him before the interview but I like him even more now!"  We all enjoyed hearing those words.  How true the words are for I experience that too while visiting backstage after the Vince and Amy Christmas show in Boston.

Just a few weeks prior to the Denver concert, I went hunting in Kensington, Kansas that resulted in me hurting my ankle in a fall.  My father took me to the Smith Center, Kansas hospital  where I received assistance and x-rays from the hospital emergency medical staff.  While at the hospital , during conversation, Shermie learned that one of the girls working there was a cousin of Vince.   I were very happy to let her know that I was attending Vince's concert in Denver. 

I love listening to Vince's great band.  Being a musician, I was really impressed with the drummer, violin and bass player.  I was also very impressed with the vocal harmony gals along with the Bluegrass group.  Vince's choices of tunes he performed that night along adding the personal touch of his life to the show as wonderful.  Vince continues to provide the evening-to-remember shows for his fans.  He's my favorite.

An evening with Vince Gill KYGO's Feed the Need Showcase 11/21/2006, 7:30 p.m. Vince Gill is the ambassador of country music. This isn't his official title, of course, but it's the role he occupies whether he's picking bluegrass with his boyhood heroes backstage at the Grand Ole Opry or trading jazz licks with the house band on The Late Show with David Letterman. Gill's prodigious talent, legendary compassion and quick wit have made him the face that country music likes to show the world. After graduation, Vince turned professional, working with such acts as the Bluegrass Alliance, Boone Creek, Sundance and, most famously, Pure Prairie League. For a time, Gill also toured with Rodney Crowell's high-octane backup band, the Cherry Bombs. In 1983, he scored his first solo country hits, among them "Oklahoma Borderline" and "Cinderella." In 1990, he achieved his big breakthrough with "When I Call Your Name," which won the Country Music Associations Single of the Year award. Since then, he has won 17 more CMA honors, including Entertainer of the Year twice and Song of the Year four times. To date, Gill has earned more CMA trophies than anyone else in history. He has hosted the nationally televised CMA awards show since 1992. Since 1990, Gill has walked away with 17 Grammy awards, a total that ties him with the late Chet Atkins for the most Grammys won by a country artist. In 1991, he was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry and remains one of that revered radio shows most active members. As a recording artist, Gill has racked up sales in excess of 22 million. His high, pure tenor voice and unerring sense of harmony, have made him a favorite duet recording partner for dozens of fellow artists' from Ralph Stanley to Barbra Streisand.
